Framlingham Castle Wedding photography
After a quintessentially English church wedding in the stunning church in Framlingham, it was a short walk up the hill to the castle for a wedding reception inside the castle walls. But not before Janina and Sam were stopped at the castle gate for a traditional Polish bread & salt blessing. And followed later by more Polish vodka. Na Zdrowie!
Nina and Sam were married in Framlingham and had a short walk up the road to celebrate their marriage at Framlingham Castle. Framlingham Castle wedding photography is quite an unusual experience. As you are going into the castle the last of the visitors are going home, leaving the whole place to yourself. Some guests walked around the grounds in awe of the history of such a place – whilst others bought plastic swords from the gift shop and headed for the ramparts. Boys, tsk!

There was a Polish side to the wedding and it was the first time I had seen the traditional bread and salt ceremony from Polish weddings – and true to form, the vodka toasts came out later in the evening (around about the time things started to get a little hazy for some of the guests). Food carved at the tables was expertly done by many of the medical surgeons on hand although the vodka might have a little to with it as well.
Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

Photographing a Unique Wedding at Framlingham Castle | Suffolk Wedding Photography
When it comes to unforgettable wedding venues in Suffolk, few locations can rival the historic beauty and character of Framlingham Castle. Surrounded by medieval walls, stunning countryside views, and centuries of history, this iconic Suffolk landmark provides a spectacular setting for couples seeking a wedding venue that is anything but ordinary.
A Truly Unique Suffolk Wedding Venue
As a Suffolk wedding photographer, I have photographed weddings at many beautiful venues across the county, but a wedding at Framlingham Castle always feels particularly special. The combination of history, architecture, and open landscapes creates endless opportunities for unique and timeless wedding photography.
Why Framlingham Castle is Perfect for Wedding Photography
One of the biggest attractions of a Framlingham Castle wedding is the incredible variety of photographic backdrops available throughout the day. From the dramatic stone walls and historic gatehouse to the sweeping views across the Suffolk countryside, every corner of the venue offers something visually striking.
The castle’s medieval architecture instantly adds character and atmosphere to wedding photographs. Whether capturing romantic portraits beneath ancient stonework or documenting candid moments against the backdrop of the castle walls, every image benefits from the venue’s rich sense of history.
For couples looking for wedding photographs that stand out from traditional country house venues, Framlingham Castle delivers something truly distinctive.
Capturing Natural Moments Throughout the Day
While the castle itself is undoubtedly impressive, the real focus of every wedding day remains the people and the emotions being shared. One of my favourite aspects of photographing weddings at Framlingham Castle is combining those authentic moments with the venue’s dramatic surroundings.
From nervous excitement before the ceremony to laughter during the drinks reception and joyful celebrations later in the evening, the castle provides a beautiful setting without overwhelming the story of the day.
The elevated position of the castle also allows for stunning wide-angle images that showcase both the couple and the surrounding Suffolk landscape. These photographs help capture not only what the wedding looked like, but also the unique atmosphere of the venue itself.
Golden Hour Portraits Around the Castle Grounds
If there is one moment every couple should make time for during a Framlingham Castle wedding, it is a short portrait session during golden hour.
As the sun begins to set, the warm light illuminates the castle walls and surrounding countryside, creating perfect conditions for romantic wedding portraits. The contrast between the historic stone architecture and the soft evening light produces images that feel both dramatic and elegant.
The open grounds surrounding the castle offer plenty of space to create natural, relaxed photographs without feeling rushed or staged. Often, these quiet moments away from guests become some of a couple’s favourite memories from the entire day.
A Wedding Venue Full of Character and History
Choosing a wedding venue is about more than simply finding a beautiful location. Many couples are drawn to Framlingham Castle because of its unique character and historical significance.
The castle has stood proudly in the heart of Suffolk for centuries, making it one of the county’s most recognisable landmarks. For couples who love history, architecture, or simply want a wedding venue with a genuine sense of place, Framlingham Castle offers something that few other venues can match.
Every wedding held within its walls becomes part of that ongoing story, creating a memorable experience for both the couple and their guests.
